I saw this pic a few days ago, which may help. And your kid is way better to start off with too. It was titled no one is born being able to draw, its all about practice.

That's a very impressive drawing for any age! You are an excellent artist, young lady!

It gets a thumb of approval from Barack and myself! That's pretty good for 10 years old!

I'm 29 and she draws better than I do. I know what she's feeling though - the reason I don't draw a lot is because I can't translate to the paper what I see in my head, so it gets me pissed off and I don't do it.

If she keeps practicing, she will get better at making the picture on the paper match what's in her head.

As a proof of that, here's a "before/after" done by one of my ex's, showing how she's improved in 4 years.

I've seen some of my ex's stuff from when she was around your daughter's age, and it was pretty similar.

It gets better.

It looks like a person. In fact, it looks like a person the way a japanese animator would draw one. Hopefully that's what she's going for. She's already MILES ahead of me, and I'm 4x her age.

I heard something on the radio recently about drawing and handwriting. Both are skills/tasks that develop over years and with practice. My handwriting looks like I stopped practicing meaningfully in about 6th grade (true) and my drawing skills stopped developing before that. I used to love to draw but all it ever got me was in trouble in school so I stopped.

She's doing really well, and with a parent encouraging her, she'll only get better.

The only reason she wouldn't improve is if she stopped trying. I think she's definitely headed towards excellence.

as an artist, this is great for a beginner, but you can get better. I went through the "crap phase" everything you draw no matter how good you are will always look like crap to you.

go on those How to draw manga sites and get the basics down. once you know the basics the world is yours.

this is my latest crud... I've been doodling for almost ten years now, so you have time.

The issue I have is that I can't draw men..or hands...Lips are now starting to beome easy.... it's a completely different style, and women are more fun to draw, Like cars :D

Your biggest challenge will be proportion, and that's actually kinda easy after awhile.
